The Secret Garden

For my capstone, I was the Production Sound Engineer for The Secret Garden. This show gave me experience with two systems that had never been used before at CCM, L-Acoustics L-ISA technology and BlackTrax. Both of these systems worked together to create an immersive audio experience for the audience. Organizing the rentals, load-in, and patching of all of the equipment proved challenging but exciting. For Hunchback of Notre Dame, I served as the Production Sound Engineer. Tasked with a complex system design, collaboration among departments was key for a smooth load-in process. To make load-in and cable patching as simple as possible for my crew, I created a spreadsheet that detailed each patch point for all of the gear and cable used. It was very useful for troubleshooting and made the tech process less problematic.

Signal Flow
Director: Vince DeGeorge
Sound Designer: Edward Mineishi

Having always been more technical oriented, this show put me into new territory as the Associate Sound Designer. Drafting the signal flow for this show was my biggest task and it gave me a new love for designing show paperwork. It took many revisions and discussions with the designer to reach the final product but it allowed our PSE to have a smooth prep process.

Guys and Dolls
Director: Diane Lala
Sound Designer: Jason Sebastian

I served as the Mix Engineer on Guys and Dolls. This show gave me valuable mixing experience and heightened my listening ability. Most of the musical numbers in this show featured large chorus parts. The song "Luck Be A Lady" was the most challenging to mix because I had to balance one male voice with twenty powerful male voices without hurting the ears of the audience.

Jesus Christ Superstar
Director: Diane Lala
Sound Designer: Matthew D. Birchmeier

When given the role of sub-mixer for this show, I was expecting to get the opportunity to mix maybe one matinee show during the two week run. Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, I ended up mixing about five performances while our A1 was out. Jesus Christ Superstar gave me insight into bus-proofing a mix script and how to remain calm in stressful situations.

I served in my first leadership role at CCM as A2 on this production. I gained a lot of troubleshooting insight from the variety of microphones we used on this show. I also learned important leadership skills and how to collaborate with other departments. The things I learned from this show have shaped me into the leader and technician I am today.
